Coconut oil has many uses. It can be used as skin moisturizer, hair conditioner or dietary supplement (1 tbsp a day). But I specifically bought Bukid Organic Virgin Coconut Oil for oil pulling purposes. Oil pulling is the act of swishing oil in the mouth to improve oral health by removing toxins. It is said that this practice started in India thousands of years ago.
Bukid Organic Virgin Coconut Oil is cold-pressed, organic, high-grade and 100% pure unprocessed coconut oil as indicated on its packaging.
I like Bukid Organic for oil pulling coz unlike other brands in the market, the smell and taste of coconut isn’t that strong. When oil pulling, you swish oil into your mouth for up to 20 minutes so if you don’t like the scent and taste of coconut oil, it’s going to be terrible. I know people who become nauseous after they’ve tried to do oil pulling because of the scent and taste of coconut oil.
How to use coconut oil for oil pulling:
When you wake up (even before gargling), put 1 to 2 tsps of coconut oil into your mouth.
Swish for up to 20 minutes (though when you’re new to oil pulling, you could probably do 5 to 10 mins at best). Please make sure you don’t swallow the oil while swishing since the oil contains a lot of bacteria.
After 20 mins, spit it out and rinse your mouth with water. When you spit out the oil, it’s thicker, double in volume and creamy white as it’s been mixed with your saliva.
BTW, please don’t spit out the oil in the sink as it may clog pipes. I usually spit it out in the food waste.
I bought Bukid Organic from Lazada. Each 250ml bottle costs Php225 though at the time that I bought, they had a discounted price if you buy a bundle of 4 bottles.
Rating: 4/5. Compared to other brands within the same price range, Bukid Organic Virgin Coconut Oil has the mildest scent and taste of coconut oil so it’s great for oil pulling and also as dietary supplement. You won’t smell like food too if you use it as hair or skin conditioner. But if you don’t mind the strong scent and taste of coconut oil, there are a lot of other local brands priced below Php200 that are worth considering.
