The most popular tea for sleep is probably lavender-based but I find the flowery scent and taste too strong for me.
I discovered Be Well Tea Get Some Zzz’s, an herb tea for Rest, at Healthy Options. What I like about it is that it’s a combination of several herbs – organic rooibos, chamomile, passionflower and valerian – a good blend where not a single herb dominates the scent or taste. In fact, the taste is a slight hint of citrus (coz it has lemon peel) and mint (it has spearmint leaf).
It’s effective for me – when I take it, I sleep for long hours. But please note that I don’t take it everyday coz I am not sure if Sleep Tea is habit-forming and I don’t want to be dependent on anything to lull myself to sleep. 🙂
I only drink a cup of this tea when for example, it’s already late and I have a hard time sleeping, or when I wasn’t able to rest well the previous night and I need to catch on sleep the following night.
You could have it as hot or cold tea. For hot tea, steeping time is 5 to 7 minutes. For cold tea, the instructions recommend to use 2 bags. But I usually have this as hot tea.
BTW, there’s a warning on the packaging that this tea is not for pregnant and lactating women unless you get clearance from your doctor.
A canister contains 36 tea bags and it costs about Php600+ (sorry, couldn’t remember the exact price). When you buy, please don’t forget to check the expiration date. If you’re consuming it by yourself, it should be at least 2 years away from expiry date coz I can’t imagine one having 36 sleepless nights in 1 year! Haha… Or you could split the content with another friend who occasionally have sleepless nights too.
